Quick Preparation Checklist

24 Hours Before:

  • ✅ Review fasting requirements

  • ✅ Confirm appointment time/location

  • ✅ Check medication restrictions

Day of Test:

  • ✅ Bring photo ID and order form

  • ✅ Arrive on time (or slightly early)

  • ✅ Wear comfortable, loose-sleeved clothing

When in Doubt

  • Check your order email for specific instructions

  • Default to fasting if unsure and morning appointment (unless you are participating in our blood donation at Vitalant)

  • Contact support for clarification

Medication & Supplement Guidelines

Generally Safe to Continue

Keep Taking:

  • Prescription medications (unless doctor says otherwise)

  • Blood pressure medications

  • Heart medications

  • Thyroid medications

  • Most chronic condition treatments

Medications That May Affect Results

Hormone Tests:

  • Birth control pills (affects hormone levels)

  • Testosterone replacement therapy (note timing)

  • Thyroid medications (may affect thyroid tests)

Blood Sugar Tests:

  • Diabetes medications (follow doctor's instructions)

  • Steroids (can affect glucose)

Lipid Tests:

  • Cholesterol medications (consult doctor about timing)

  • Fish oil supplements (may affect triglycerides)

Supplements to Consider Pausing

24-48 Hours Before:

What NOT to Bring

Day of Test Process

Before Leaving Home

  1. Double-check fasting status (if required)

  2. Verify appointment time and location

  3. Drink water if allowed (helps with blood draw)

  4. Wear appropriate clothing (loose sleeves)

At the Lab

Check-in Process:

  1. Arrive 10-15 minutes early

  2. Present ID and order form

  3. Complete any required paperwork

  4. Confirm "pre-paid" status

During Blood Draw:

  1. Remain calm and relaxed

  2. Look away if needles make you uncomfortable

  3. Breathe normally

  4. Communicate any concerns to phlebotomist

After Blood Draw:

  1. Apply pressure to puncture site

  2. Keep bandage on for 2-4 hours

  3. Avoid heavy lifting with that arm for 24 hours

  4. Resume normal activities
